Special Public Health Hazard Season – Nov. 16 – Jan. 19, 2016 Open area – Buffalo, Phelps, Harlan, Franklin, Kearney, Dawson and Lincoln counties. DOVE (Includes mourning, white-winged and Eurasian collared doves) Season dates – Sept. 1 – Oct. 30 Daily bag limit – 15 in aggregate (see page 16) Possession limit – 45 in aggregate Open area – statewide, but no hunting on all state refuges and sanctuaries Remarks – Includes mourning, white-winged and Eurasian collared-doves. Doves must be shot while in flight; HIP number required. Total harvest of all dove species combined cannot exceed 15. Banding – Hunters who discover a band on a mourning dove should contact the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service banding office at 800-327-BAND (2263) or reportband.gov. Wing study – Randomly selected hunters will be asked to save one wing from each dove during the first week of the season and mail the wings (postage free) to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Data from the wings will be used to estimate annual productivity of the dove population and eventually used in helping to establish hunting regulations. UPLAND BIRDS EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVE (Does not include mourning and white-winged doves) Season dates – Oct. 31, 2015 – Aug. 31, 2016 Daily bag/possession limits – 15/45 Open area – statewide, but no hunting on all state refuges and sanctuaries Remarks – Small game license and habitat stamp required; HIP number NOT required. Also legal during dove season as part of aggregate bag (see above). QUAIL Season dates – Oct. 31 – Jan. 31, 2016 Daily bag/possession limits – 6/24 Open area – statewide, but no hunting on all state refuges and sanctuaries Remarks – Quail must be shot while in flight. PARTRIDGE Season dates – Oct. 31 – Jan. 31, 2016 Daily bag/possession limits – 3/12 Open area – statewide, but no hunting on all state refuges and sanctuaries UPLAND BIRDS HARVEST INFORMATION PROGRAM (HIP) Anyone planning to hunt doves, ducks, geese, snipe, rail, coot or woodcock between Aug. 1, 2015, and July 31, 2016, must register with the Harvest Information Program (HIP) before hunting – even if they registered for the 2014 hunting seasons. Residents, nonresidents – even those already registered in another state – lifetime permit holders, veterans and over-70 and fee-exempt permit holders must register. Registration is free. Hunters may register 24 hours a day at OutdoorNebraska.ne.gov/Hip/ or by calling 877-634-8687.
