The Southwest Fisheries District encompasses 13 counties. This district has the smallest
percent of the state's population at 3% (69,319) but has the largest amount of surface acres of
water at 47,755 between 63 public waters. The district has many I-80 sandpits providing good
shoreline access to small water bodies. The hallmark of this district is the largest reservoir in
Nebraska, Lake McConaughy, along with the other Southwest irrigation reservoirs.
