Wood Reserve Ponds (Sioux County)
The Wood Reserve Ponds are old hatchery ponds that currently function as hike-in trout
fisheries on U.S. Forest Service property. The area experienced flooding that filled in the
first pond with silt and is now prone to algae blooms in late spring and into the summer
reducing angling opportunities. Excavation would improve angler use and improve
sustainability of the trout fishery. The first pond is the top priority but ponds 2 and 4 would
also benefit from deepening.
Goals: Habitat, Access
Tasks:
a. Excavate ponds for deeper water Trout habitat and improved access.
