49 | P a g e Lewis and Clark Lake SRA (South Shore Area - Knox County) The South Shore access and boat ramp is the eastern-most boat ramp on Lewis and Clark Lake. Lateral drift of shale due to northwest winds and a long lake fetch have resulted in blockage of the boat ramp bay. The overall goal is to deepen South Shore Bay and extend the deflector jetty to deeper water, preventing shale deposition in the bay mouth and facilitate boating access. Goals: Access Tasks: a. Excavate mouth of South Shore Bay to remove accumulated shale and maintain boat access. b. Extend rock deflector (breakwater/jetty) to direct lateral drift of shale to deeper water and away from the mouth of South Shore Bay. Ownership: U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Potential Partners: NGPC Parks Division, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Coast Guard. Niobrara State Park Pond (Knox County) Niobrara State Park Pond is located on the eastern edge of Niobrara State Park in Knox County. This 6-acre pond was constructed as a road grade structure on the interior road system and has experienced low water issues, limiting the development of the fishery. The low water levels prompted contracting with Olsson's Consulting to evaluate the current conditions. They recommended that the pond be sealed with a clay liner and the installation of a well to maintain water levels. Since the water will be lowered for construction, additional improvements could be made to fishing access, boating access for Game and Parks use, and aquatic habit within the basin. Goals: Habitat, Access Tasks: a. Seal pond bottom with clay/bentonite mix to reduce pond leakage. b. Install a well and pump to maintain water level at full pool. c. Reconstruct fishing bridge and improve angler and NGPC boat access on the north side. It was once a good fishery, but rough fish are now causing water quality concerns and should be chemically renovated. The outlet pipe on the northwest corner of the sandpit should be replaced to prevent recontamination with undesirable fish species. In addition, a berm
