14 | P a g e Medicine Creek Reservoir (Frontier County) The Trail 1 boat ramp at Medicine Creek Reservoir is located within a bay on the southwest corner of the reservoir. The mouth of the bay is being closed off from the main lake due to lateral drift of sediment that may eventually limit boat access. A past project developed several jetties to reduce the drift of sediment but are not adequate during high water levels. Boat and angler access could be enhanced by redesigning the jetties, shoreline stabilization, and excavation of the bay. The lake basin should also be diversified with the addition of cedar trees and rock shoals. Goals: Habitat, Access Tasks: a. Repair existing breakwaters to prevent sediment drift along the west shoreline. b. Remove existing sediment to prevent access limitations in the future. c. Enhance in-lake fish habitat using cedar trees and rock shoals. Ownership: Bureau of Reclamation Potential Partners: Bureau of Reclamation, NGPC Parks Division North Platte River Diversion Asian Carp Barrier (Lincoln County) In 2023, the first documented Asian Carp was found at the North Platte River diversion near North Platte. This barrier is the last line of defense before they infest the Tri-County Canal downstream to Johnson Lake, the North Platte River up to Lake Ogallala, and the South Platte River to the Korty Diversion between Roscoe and Paxton. Preventing further westward expansion is crucial due to the harm they will cause to public resources. Goals: Prevention, Evaluation Tasks: a. Evaluate the possibility of installing a fish barrier to prevent further expansion of AIS fish species at the diversion and in the mouth of White Horse Creek. Ownership: Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District, Nebraska Public Power District Potential Partners: Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District, Nebraska Public Power District, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Red Willow Reservoir (Frontier County) The south boat ramp at Red Willow Reservoir does not service the reservoir at all elevations. Extending the ramp and improving the existing breakwater would provide a second boat ramp at low elevations for public use. The lake basin should also be diversified with the addition of cedar trees and rock shoals.
