The Northeast Fisheries District encompasses the largest number of counties at 25 and is bordered by the Missouri River on the east and part of the north. It is the second-most populated district at 13% of the state's population (259,601). The aquatic resources of this district are a diverse mix of small impoundments in the east and sandhill lakes to the west; warmwater streams in the central and south part of the district and some cool-water streams to the north. The district contains 112 public water bodies encompassing 41,235 surface acres of water.
