Bioblitzes
Bioblitzes are a collaborative eff ort to provide a snapshot of what species can be found at a location.
This is the coming together of experts and members of the public for an educational experience. In 2024,
220 people participated in three state park bioblitzes at Red Willow and Wildcat Hills state recreation areas
and at Chadron State Park. Other bioblitz events included Nebraska Pollinator Quest with 124 observers
contributing 568 pollinator observations across the state and the Lincoln-Lancaster County City Nature
Challenge in which 125 people made 2,773 wildlife and plant observations in a four-day period.
Nebraska Wildlife Watch
In an eff ort to fi nd observations of the elusive eastern spotted skunk, Game and Parks has been collecting
images with baited camera traps. Because of the time intensive task of reviewing the thousands of images
collected, Game and Parks hosts an online community science project called Nebraska Wildlife Watch. In
2024, over 675 people helped to categorize and tag these images for researchers.
