28 2024 Annual Report • Management Aquatic access improvements Nebraska Game and Parks also prioritizes access and access improvements on Nebraska's 475 public lakes. Access includes boat and kayak launches and accessible fi shing piers. In 2024, recreational users could use 357 access points on Nebraska's public lakes; they also could use 131 access points on 46 streams and rivers. Major access improvement initiatives in 2024 included: • The completion of six boating access projects at Grove Lake, Hayes Center and DeFair wildlife management areas, Danish Alps and Enders state recreation areas, and Standing Bear Lake. These projects included boat ramp replacements, fl oating fi shing piers, accessible kayak launches and erosion control, among other things. • Beginning construction on eight boating access projects at Midway, Plum Creek and Phillips Canyon wildlife management areas, Gallagher Canyon and Bluestem state recreation areas, and new lakes — WP-1, WP-2 and WP-4 — in Omaha. These projects include boat ramps and improvements and fl oating docks at the WMAs and SRAs and paddle craft launch docks and shore launches in Omaha, among other things. • The design of fi ve additional boating access projects at Frenchman, Frye and Avocet wildlife management areas, Swanson Reservoir State Recreation Areas and Indian Cave State Park. These projects will improve the user experience.
