From fi eld to forever
Those new to the hunting tradition also had plenty of opportunities to learn and grow with eff orts from
Nebraska Game and Parks and its partners. Among them were:
Mentored hunts
Our Youth Mentored Hunts program off ered young hunting enthusiasts a safe and engaging introduction to
the traditions of hunting — whether they were in pursuit of waterfowl, pheasant or deer.
Youth are paired with experienced mentors, who help young hunters learn essential hunting skills
and develop a deep respect for wildlife and conservation principles. Hunts occurred at Ash Hollow State
Historical Park, where conservation offi cers taught youth to waterfowl hunt; Ponca State Park, where park
superintendents assisted youth on deer hunts; and other sites.
Nebraska's Special Youth Pheasant Hunt also is an opportunity for Nebraska youth to get fi eld experience.
During a two-day youth-only season, 330 mentors took 355 youth into the fi eld on 19 wildlife management
area sites to pursue 9,110 roosters released in the days before the hunt by Nebraska Game and Parks. About
650 pheasants were harvested.
Game and Parks also continued its Becoming and Outdoors-Woman and Learn to Hunt series, which pair
adults new to hunting with the skills they need for long-term success. Through these eff orts, we strive to
make the outdoors accessible, enjoyable and educational for everyone, turning each trip into an opportunity
for lifelong memories and learnings.
Pheasant hunts like
this one (sponsored by
Becoming an Outdoors-
Woman), provide
an opportunity for
Nebraskans to get fi eld
experience.
