Retaining a dedicated and talented team
Nebraska Game and Parks is successful in stewardship of our natural resources
because of our team of dedicated professional staff who believe strongly in our
mission. Retaining talented and dedicated employees is critical to our ability to serve
the public and care for the resources.
At Game and Parks, many employees have dedicated their entire careers to
conservation of natural resources at the Commission, and in a recent staff survey,
nearly 80% would recommend Nebraska Game and Parks as a great place to work to
friends and family.
Game and Parks is working to address new issues related to hiring and retention. As
employers, the state competes with the private industry for competitive wages, which
has created challenges in staff recruitment and retention of professionals. As staff
have retired, been promoted and moved to different positions, vacancies have been
created statewide.
The agency is working on competitive wages and has advocated for and provided
increased wages for workers in parks. It also is promoting career opportunities
through communications with colleges, hiring and career fairs, and in our public areas.
