STAR WARS projects making progress
Work on three tourism and water access projects at Game and Parks properties moved forward in 2023.
The projects at Lake McConaughy State Recreation Area, Lewis and Clark SRA and Niobrara State Park were
identified by the Nebraska's Legislature's Statewide Tourism and Recreation Water Access and Resource
Sustainability, or STAR WARS, committee, and included in the LB1023, a $100 million bill to enhance
Nebraska lakes and parks. The bill passed in 2022.
The following progress on the projects was made in 2023:
•
Lewis and Clark Weigand Marina – The design is 90% complete and under review by the U.S. Army
Corps of Engineers. The construction schedule is dependent upon the duration and outcome of the Corps'
review. Also, public and stakeholder input was received in 2023.
•
Lake McConaughy Marina – Input from the Lake McConaughy Advisory Committee and other
stakeholders was received while a feasibility study was completed in July to determine a site for the
marina. The design process will begin in 2024.
•
Niobrara Lodge Conference Facility – The lodge project is in the process of hiring a design consultant,
with design work expected to begin in early 2024.
The Lewis and Clark Weigand
Marina design is 90% complete.
