ARBOR LODGE STATE HISTORICAL PARK
T
his beautiful estate in Nebraska City was
home to J. Sterling Morton, founder of Arbor
Day. From its beginning in 1855 as a four-room
frame house, the magnificent mansion grew to
52 rooms through several additions. Authentic
furnishings grace the rooms, and displays capture
the life and times of this exceptional man and his
notable family.
A collection of antique carriages and wagons
are displayed in the carriage house. Tours of
the mansion and strolls through the arboretum
and formal rose garden are a must. Picnic areas
are provided. Living History Days occur in late
September/early October, offering a look back
at the trades and crafts of yesteryear. The park
and mansion are also available for weddings and
other private events.
