Platte River State Park celebrated its 40thanniversary in August
2022 with a daylong event that featured food, games, history and
music.
Guests enjoyed a fun run, educational activities, and campground
and water games, as well as live classic country music. Visitors had
the opportunity to learn about the history of the Plains Indians, the
early settlement in Otoe County. Bison stew and Dutch-oven desserts
topped off the festivities.
The park, nestled halfway between Lincoln and Omaha, used to be
the site of two separate camps – Harriet Harding Campfire Girls Camp
and Camp Esther K. Newman – and a tract of woodlands. Today, the
park boasts a plethora of opportunities for outdoor recreation, as well
as unique overnight stay accommodations.
