Participants will apply specific wildlife and pollinator conservation practices to benefit pheasants, quail, grassland songbirds, monarch butterflies, native bees, and other wildlife. Additionally, the program aims to reduce soil losses, encourage soil health and improve water quality. PAT H WAY F OR GR AS SL AN DS PATHWAY FOR PRECISION AG CONSERVATION PATHWAY FOR COMMUNITY HABITAT Plant a diverse cover crop mixture as part of a cropping rotation with benefits of soil health, weed competition, grazing utilization, wildlife and pollinator habitat providing awareness and an economic incentive to farmers considering alternatives. Limited to Rainwater Basin. Plant native wildflowers, including milkweed for monarchs, in backyard habitats and urban green spaces to provide wildflowers blooming from April to October. Eligible project sites include city parks, colleges, libraries, churches, and other frequently visited areas. Program Highlights ■ 1 to 3-year contract options ■ 75-100% cost-sharing ■ No cropping-history necessary ■ Incentive payments ■ Annual payment option Plant native grasses and wildflowers to transition cropland or degraded grassland areas to working lands better suited for landowner objectives. Incorporate grassland management practices including brush management, prescribed fire, shrub thicket establishment, and chemical control. Monitoring and Evaluation To increase awareness and increased personal investment, participants will monitor project areas. Pheasants Forever will evaluate seeding success rate, management needs, and wildlife use. Eligible Land Land must be suitable for one of three program areas and its objectives. Cropland, grassland, community, business, and residential sites are eligible. Cropland must be in the Rainwater Basin area to be eligible for the Precision Ag Conservation project area. Pheasants Forever biologists will evaluate sites to determine program eligibility based on feasibility and other conservation programs available. C Contract Length Contracts for land enrolled in Pathway for Wildlife are 1, 2, or 3 years in length, depending on the program area. Payments Pheasants Forever provides cost-share assistance for seed and seed establishment. Additional cost-share is available for brush management, prescribed burning, and shrub thicket establishment. Annual payments for grassland projects are based on location. $30/ac. $45/ac. $60/ac.
