A Guide to the I-80 Lakes • Fishing the Interstate East Sutherland WMA The 27-acre lake comprises nearly all the property and has been renowned for its clear water. Fish species: Smallmouth bass, yellow perch, rock bass. Amenities: Gravel boat ramp. Directions: From Exit 164 at Hershey, go south about 0.25 miles to West Oregon Trail Road, turn right and go 3 miles west, then turn right on Lamont Road and go 0.5 miles north, crossing I-80 to the lake on the right. GPS coordinates: 41.141637, -101.059729 Hershey WMA At 53 acres, this is the largest I-80 lake in the state. It produces one of the best I-80 lake fi sheries, has a maximum depth of 22 feet and is renowned for its water clarity. Fish species: Largemouth bass, bluegill, channel catfi sh, rock bass, fl athead catfi sh, northern pike, walleye, yellow perch. Amenities: Concrete boat ramp, three angler access platforms. Directions: From Exit 164 at Hershey, go south 0.1 miles to the fi rst left turn, then follow Oregon Trail Road for 0.2 miles. GPS coordinates: 41.134559, -100.998206 East Hershey WMA This 20-acre lake's fi shery is protected with catch-and-release regulations for all species. Fish species: Largemouth bass, bluegill, redear sunfi sh, hybrid sunfi sh, channel catfi sh, rock bass. Amenities: Gravel boat ramp. Directions: From Exit 164 at Hershey, go south about 1 mile to West Antelope Road. Turn left and go 5 miles east to South Crane View Road, then turn left and go about 0.5 miles north, crossing the I-80 overpass. Turn right on West South River Road and follow it a short distance to the lake. GPS coordinates: 41.125721, -100.902549 Birdwood WMA The 20-acre lake is a local favorite as it is near North Platte and off ers good fi shing. Automobile access is not allowed along the east and southeast shorelines. Fish species: Largemouth bass, bluegill, channel catfi sh, rainbow trout (stocked seasonally), common carp, crappie, rock bass, yellow perch. Amenities: Concrete boat ramp, fi ve angler access platforms. Directions: From Exit 177 at North Platte, go south on Highway 83 to Walker Road. Turn right and go 3.5 miles west, then turn right on Homestead Road. Go 0.6 miles north, then cross the I-80 overpass to the lake, which is on the left. GPS coordinates: 41.116377, -100.830203 North Platte I-80 Lake This 27-acre lake is located within the city-owned Iron Horse Park. Fish species: Largemouth bass, bluegill, channel catfi sh, yellow perch.
