N Roadside hawk viewing All winter | Statewide Hawks and other birds of prey, like the red-tailed hawk and the American kestrel (pictured), can be readily seen on roadside signs, leafl ess trees and fence posts across the state, which they use as vantage points to look out for prey. Your vehicle can be an eff ective blind. Just be safe when pulling over and don't block traffi c. Predator hunting November-February | Statewide Because you're often using injured prey calls, predator hunting off ers a diff erent kind of hunt. "It's just a lot of fun to have an animal come hunt you," said Game and Parks' Jeff Rawlinson. Eff ective strategies include good camoufl age, using unique and diff erent calls, and playing the wind – setting yourself up so you're calling into the wind but can see any predator heading downwind. Dress for success with layers and heavy insulated boots, and always practice fi rearm safety.
