SMALL PLAYSCAPE
PLAN
A Small Playscape provides a full and enjoyable experience. This example
demonstrates a defined entry feature identifying the space as an area to be creative
in and amongst logs, boulders, meadow, shoreline, and other natural materials. The
layout is split into two dominant play areas for varied ages of children to find their
own space. With this size of playscape, a child's level of creativity and challenge
grows with each visit.
THE VISION
» Capitalize on existing ecosystems and
topography to help introduce park guests to
nature that is in close proximity to existing
facilities.
» Provide entranceway for users to identify
playscape.
» Create two specific areas that cater to
different age groups.
» Connect dominant play features with
smaller off-chute play areas.
THE PARTICIPANTS
» Work with local schools to integrate
educational experiences that fit with their
curricula.
» Children aged 5–12 are the target end
users.
» Manufacturers will provide Parks
Department any necessary expertise for
playscape elements when dealing with "off
the shelf" play elements like the hill slide
feature.
THE PROCESS
» Grants will be sought as primary funding in
addition to Parks Department funds.
» Infrastructure including concrete pathways
and walls will be bid and completed by
contractors. Remaining work will be
completed by Parks Department staff over
the course of one construction season.
» The design and construction process will
be managed by the park supervisor with
assistance from a representative from the
schools.
THE SITE
» The site will be located in close proximity to
existing parking and restroom facilities.
» Align site to include a varied set of
ecologies, including, but not limited to,
wetlands and meadow.
