5 How To Use This Guide You have decided you want to build something new in your park! This is an exciting journey, but it is hard to know where to begin a park development. Please note that "natural play area," "nature play," "playscape," and "natural playscape" are interchangeable throughout this document and mean the same thing. This guide is here to help you through the process to create something great on the landscape. To aid you in the steps, a series of worksheets with helpful tips have been created to guide you through planning, designing, and managing a natural playscape. The worksheets outline questions you will need to ask yourself when working through the process. Take the time to fill these out and they will take you through project development step by step. MANAGE PLAN design This information intends to guide you through what should be considered and propel you toward a successful outcome. This guide can be used in the context of designing an entire park – the principles of the process are the same as creating a natural playscape, so use this in other park projects as you see fit. This is your project and the examples and inspiration given are here to encourage you to create an individual process for your project. Make this an enjoyable process – after all, it's about play! This guide begins with providing some inspiration on what a natural playscape could look like in your area. The inspiration elements are not the only features out there, but are provided to get your creative juices flowing. This guide first addresses the planning process to make a natural playscape a reality. After planning, design becomes the focus, where you actually draw out your dreams for the space. Management follows design, but these two sections should go hand in hand, so read through both sections before starting to work on the design elements. Finally, the guide provides you with examples of different sizes of natural playscapes that you can use as assistance for your design, along with two case studies within the Nebraska State Park System.
