10 Nebraskaland magazine's • A YEAR OUTDOORS MAY Early May • Begin planting large, landscape pollinator plantings either in the spring or fall. Spring pollinator plantings may be seeded from April through mid-May. Pollinator mixes include a wide diversity of plants to ensure the bees, butterflies, moths and beetles that rely on them have food throughout the season. Fall seeding using pollinator mixes can also be sown from November through the winter. Visit Nebraskapf.com to learn more about pollinator mixes and find a Farm Bill biologist near you for more information. • Find crappies on their spawning beds as this spring bite begins. Mid-May • Attend the Outdoor Expo at Fort Kearny SRA. The event showcases the state's vast number of fun outdoor activities, meeting the needs of anyone interested in the outdoor lifestyle, regardless of age or experience.
