These are areas open to the public to fish, except for private sections of rivers and streams, which require anglers to obtain landowner permission. Public areas include Nebraska Game and Parks Commission-owned or leased state recreation areas (SRA) and wildlife management areas (WMA), as well as federal, Corps of Engineers, Bureau of Reclamation, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS), power and irrigation, Natural Resources Districts (NRD), cities and leased private waters. HOW TO USE THIS PUBLIC FISHING AREAS SECTION Lakes, rivers and streams are listed alphabetically within each of the following fisheries management districts: northwest, northeast, southwest and southeast. PUBLIC ACCESS ATLAS The Nebraska Public Access Atlas is published each summer to provide hunters, trappers and anglers a guide to publicly accessible land statewide. It is printed in hard-copy form and is available in digital and interactive versions. Visit OutdoorNebraska.org for more information. Most of the areas listed in the following Public Hunting Lands section can be located in the Public Access Atlas by seeing the map sheet located at the end of each listing. FAMILY FRIENDLY LAKES Areas listed in this Public Fishing Waters section denoted with FFL are designated as Family Friendly Lakes. These lakes identified as being safe, comfortable and having great fish-catching potential. These locations have a combination of barrier-free fishing piers, fishing trails, groomed park areas, concessions, playgrounds, picnic areas, and highly maintained fish populations. Contact the nearest fisheries supervisor for details. ACCESSIBLE FISHING Areas listed in this Public Fishing Waters section denoted with A have amenities that comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Those amenities are listed for each area.
