Southwest Nebraska Mule Deer Capture

February 20, 2018

In February of 2018 biologists from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and Nebraska Game and Parks Commission captured mule deer as part of a collaborative research project on population dynamics and behavior in southwest Nebraska. The broad goal of the study is to understand the factors limiting mule deer populations in the state. To accomplish this, the research team captured female deer to deploy tracking devices to study mortality, reproduction, movements, and habitat use. This research will greatly increase understanding of mule deer ecology and provide valuable information to managers in Nebraska.
